Ayesha deserves a healthy childhood

Two year old Ayesha has been facing difficulty in breathing for the past few weeks. She also complains of stomach ache.

Apart from prescribing medicines, the doctor has suggested her parents to keep their surroundings clean.

The family resides in New Mustafabad, Delhi.

A huge sewer divides their colony into two parts. The drainage system is not up to the mark and there are pits full of stagnant water.

Millions of children in our country are living amidst unhygienic surroundings. These children often become susceptible to illnesses like diarrhoea and pneumonia.

In fact, these illnesses cause majority of child deaths in our country.

Community Health Volunteers (Health workers) have an important role to play in such situations. They not only provide instant treatment for such illnesses, but also educate people about the importance of keeping their surroundings clean.

However, there is a severe shortage of 26 lakh trained health workers in our country.

We must urge the government to increase spending on public healthcare to reduce this gap. Join our campaign at www.savethechildren.in and help us save precious lives.
